Forum: GratefulDead Subject: What does Bob have against Morning Dew ?

In talking about Veneta, I mentioned how you can hear Jerry hint at Morning Dew, only to be vetoed by Bob going into El Paso . I can't remember which show, but one leading up to Veneta , you hear the Dew being rejected ( at least here for more jamming, as I recall ), and the most famous Dew veto, the last show a Soldier Field ! I like Black Muddy River, but the chance for the last Jerry sung Dead song being Morning Dew...
And It took them the longest time to realize you don't need to follow Morning Dew with anything, especially a later day Saturday Night , etc. Now am I just picking on Bobby again, or on to something ?

I'll have to listen to that. Not sure if it is true but to your point about tunes after Morning dew. On the NYE show 1988 the band is ripping a nice Dew and Weir ejects at the end preventing garcia from singing the last "I guess it doesn't matter anyway" line and going back into sunshine daydream. The rip cord is obvious but many peope say Garcia was really really pissed at this. Not sure if that is accurate or not.

They went back into Sugar Mag, and it seemed to me like Jerry missed his cue for the last line of verse.

I've really been digging 4-1-84 Marin Veterans Auditorium's Morning Dew a lot lately.

He has played it with Rat a few times,so maybe the time in question has wasn`t in the mood......

The ol lady has the same problem with my "morning dew"...she prefers "afternoon delights"

Ever consider Jerry may have just been teasing with it ? Not actually trying to take the band into it but teasing the crowd. Or is it really evident that Jerry wanted to go into it and bobby wouldn't play ball ? I haven't listened specifically for it so I don't know.
I guess I have my homework for the weekend tho.. LOl

Check out http://www.archive.org/details/rd2008-08-23.dpa4023.722.suraci.sbeok.flac16 for an inspired latter day dew. Musically it is excellent, led by Karan. Bob's vocals are good but break down when the band makes him scream.

Yes, I think he takes it seriously . Most of the "pacing", "transitions",or "taste", issues I have with Bobby with the GD, are not usually the case with the last few years of Ratdog . Some very interesting and satisfying shows from him .
JOTS: Yes, I think 8/8/72 is the show I was thinking of .
BSS : Ha Ha ! I guess we won't bring up Black Peter etc...
Pigpen 81: The hints a subtle , the kind you would make to your band mates , "Hey, how about we go here ".
